ABOUT ME

I had a long piece in this slot about how grumpy I am and my aspirationss to become a good writer.

One of my best friends from the UK pointed out to me that I had used the word "quite" instead of "quote" at the very end of my diatribe. In attempting to change this word I inadvertantly wiped the entire text of this slot. Now any writer will tell you that once text is lost, you can never quite write it exactly as before.

Suffice it to state that I studied a host of subjects (formally as well as informally) over the years, specializing in the intricacies of the human mind. I also said, and I repeat, that I'm the first to admit I still don't know next to nothing about it, and will probably never understand human nature.

In my long career in dealing with people I have seen the worst and the best. I am afraid the worst far outweighs the best, leaving me a bit of a skeptic. If you think that a negative statement, just have a good look at the world around you. Switch your TV to any news channel in the world and try and find the good news. The Media thrives on bad news - wholesale bribery and corruption at the highest level (witness the government of my own country), slaughter of innocent school children by imbecilic Taliban warriors (what a misnomer), never-ending brutal territorial  wars, flourishing human trafficking, incomprehensible terrorist atrocities, rape, pillage, abuse of women and children, government-funded drug enslavement of millions, alcohol abuse, greed, deceit, you name it ... the list is endless.

Personally I think the problem is fourfold:

       1. Our world is grossly overpopulated. Something is going to give.

       2. Technology (like Alvin Toffler predicted in his book, Future Shock),  is rapidly swamping

          mankind.

       3. We are moving away from God - once unshakeable citadels of the Christian faith like America (In

God We Trust!) and the UK, are now passing laws forbidding the use of the word God in their

public schools lest it upset some pupil of another faith.

       4. The looming threat to world peace posed by the actions of seriously misled Islamic extremists

wanting to force their beliefs on the world (Syria is a good example).

Now you know why my wife, children, grandkids, friends, and acquaintances, think I'm grumpy. I can assure you of one indisputable fact, though - a Godless society is a dangerous place to live in!
