“No, when the fight begins within himself,
A man’s worth something.”
Robert Browning (1812-89) British Poet.
Potential Awareness is not a self-improvement course.
In fact, I seriously question all the much vaunted “Self Improvement” courses being continuously touted, some at the most exorbitant prices.
This is not one of those. It won’t allow you to walk unscathed over hot coals, bring out the NEW you in fourteen weeks, allow you to outsell everybody in history, bring influenced friends flocking to your door, or pave your way to untold riches,
Neither will it enable you to fly, or become Superman, Spiderman, and the Incredible Hulk all rolled into one.
What it will do is help you discover yourself, allow you to find out who and what you really are. Whether at the end of this you will like or dislike the person you find, is hard to tell. If you find the latter prevalent, well then, perhaps it will be time for you to seriously take stock and use your new-found awareness to change the situation.
Browning’s words: “No, when the fight begins within himself,
A man’s worth something.”
is a gem of wisdom, and also the key to finding the real you.
It is an unfortunate fact of life that most people live the entire period allotted them on this earth without ever realising the person they were supposed to be, without ever discovering or unleashing their true potential. Many, at their deathbed, suddenly realise they have never lived.
Each and every one of us (sane, able-minded people) possess potential. The degree to which we are aware of this potential determines how happy, how accomplished, and how successful we are.
The Chambers 21st Century Dictionary lists Potential as:
" possible or likely, though as yet not tested or actual;
the range of capabilities that someone or something has;
powers or resources not yet developed or made use of."
Awareness:
"The fact or state of being aware, or conscious, especially
of matters that are particularly relevant or topical."
It follows then that Potential Awareness is:
To fully develop the ability to exploit, realise, and utilise to the
maximum, the unique talents, powers, and capabilities bestowed
on you, in order to live and enjoy life to the full.
This … is however easier said than done!
And this is where most of the popular self-improvement courses take advantage. They promise the would-be convert overnight success and immediate popularity. Very much like the instant conversions to Christianity, where Jesus changes someone miraculously into a new person. For a while people live an euphoric high, convinced they can outdo even Superman when it comes to unaided aerial loops and stunts, put Batman in his place, and twist the Incredible Hulk around their baby finger.
For a few wonderful, exhilarating, hallelujah weeks that is. And then (as it must) the letdown comes with a spine-cracking, smack-on-the-earth jolt that rattles people to their very core, the results often severely traumatic.
Problem is that artificial stimuli can only achieve so much. By its very nature it is of fleeting value. It's very much like taking an old battered car and armed with only a paint brush attempt to make it look like new. It's a losing battle. Permanent and lasting change can only come from within a person with a sincere, fervent inner desire to make things better, to do things differently. Ask any psychologist or psychiatrist, until a person really wants change in whatever situation they are being counseled for, therapy is largely ineffective.
Any person unfortunate enough to be addicted to alcohol or drugs will never kick the habit until they decide within themselves that enough is enough and they are actively going to seek help. The old adage that you can take a horse to the water but you cannot make it drink, is regrettably a fact!
Each and every one of us, i.e. normal people, have within ourselves an enormous force capable of changing ourselves, others, and the world around us. The Chinese call it Qi, meaning "breath" or "energy", the life force that flows along a network of meridians in a person's body vital to their physical and spiritual health. In the West it is referred to as the "breath of life", the force that animates the vessels we walk around in, our bodies, whilst we are alive. It is this mystical, unique force, in Christianity known as the Holy Spirit, which at death leaves to reunite with the Universal Mind.
At the beginning of the previous paragraph I stated normal people. I should really qualify this, as it could lead to the impression that only what we deem to be "normal" people have Qi. Everybody has this force, it is received at birth, but not everybody is capable (due to impaired mental deficiencies and genetic inheritance in some) of utilising it. A person with a very low IQ for instance, would not be able to grasp the implications of the concept and apply it effectively. Similarly one who has inherited genetic mental disorders of a serious nature. What is meant with "normal", is the run-of-the-mill person fortunate to be in possession of all their mental faculties and capable of using it.
Potential Awareness is a method by which a person can discover their Qi and earn the right to use it. No, earn is not misspelt, supposed to be learn, I very much meant "earn". There simply is (no matter what any course, instructor, expert, whoever or whatever says) no Quick Fix in life. Any worthwhile, meaningful change in a person's life has to be earned! That is why instant conversions to one or other of the religions, or self-improvement courses seldom work. No one (including yourself and I) can simply wave a magic wand and YES!, there is a NEW YOU! It doesn’t work that way!
There is one HUGE factor that stands in your way to improve yourself and find a new you. And, believe it or not, it is YOU!
Most of us are our own worst enemies. The reasons for this is of course manifold, upbringing, social environment, childhood experiences, parentage, geographic situation, political environment, the list is endless. If all has to be taken into context, it is a miracle any of us are sane, level-headed, successful individuals. There is so much that can go wrong, and in many people’s lives do go wrong, but somehow humanity has survived and attained a semblance of normality.
Taking the above in account though, irrespective of our multifaceted background, in the end, unfortunately, we are where we are, due to, amongst others, one major factor – THE CHOICES WE MADE.
There are inescapable Cosmic Laws, as old as time itself, governing life. I would dare say the majority of people are unaware of these, and carry on regardless. During this program we will name them, and examine each in detail. Suffice it to say at this point, that some of these laws influence the choices we make in life, and ignoring them usually leads to disaster.

At this point, when I was still physically presenting this program, each participant was given the opportunity to stand up and introduce themselves, and give a short background as to what they do, what they believe in, and what they hope to get out of attending the program. It is a very important step, because the dynamics of a group is an essential part of the successful functioning of the program. Without exception, every time the program was presented, I, as well as the participants, had great fun, and enjoyed many a laugh, as well as joyful moments of sudden realization and exciting insight.
Unfortunately, in presenting the program in an impersonal manner in the written word on a screen, that dynamic is lost. There is no way to make up for it. The best I can do is to invite you to, as we go along, if you have any questions, suggestions, bothersome doubts, anything whatsoever, to please feel free to contact me at ross4books@gmail.com
I will endeavor to answer each and every one I receive. Please be so kind as to type POTENTIAL-A in the Subject line.
You may, if you like, and intend following the bi-monthly lectures, drop me a line as to who you are, and why you are interested in following the program.

The modern world we live in has many challenges, and without a doubt is a far more hazardous, dangerous, difficult, and even hostile, environment than that our parents and grandparents grew up in. Rampant technology is changing life as I write, unchecked population growth throughout most of the world, especially the Third World countries, is reaching dangerous proportions, unemployment is a major problem in every country, electricity grids worldwide are taking strain, food production and provision of fresh water will soon become critical, whilst ongoing regional wars are displacing entire populations and ravaging the country sides.
No, this is not alarmist mongering, it is sadly, fact. And to live a meaningful life, you have to be aware of it. You have to get to know the world you live in, you have to become aware of where we are going, what is in store for our children, what kind of world they are going to inherit, and most of all, you need to get involved. There is nothing more dangerous than the man who sits on the sidelines, witness evil and injustice, intolerance and victimization, and does nothing about it!
However, this is only one aspect of Potential Awareness, the fact that your awareness must not stop with you, it has to encompass life, with its multitudinous facets, as a whole. But to achieve this, we have to start with the individual.
A very small percentage of the world’s population are fortunate enough to have received, and are receiving, specialized private education. The majority has attended, and do attend, public institutions with varying degrees of competence and content. However, this should not stop you from enriching your mind. One of the major benefits of modern technology is that knowledge is virtually at your fingertips, and knowledge, as it has been since the dawn of time, is POWER. Those in-the-know, have always, and will always, rule the rest of us.
We have been conditioned to think we are three-dimensional beings with limited potential, and that the world we live in is strictly three–dimensional. But that is not true, we are multifaceted beings with virtually unlimited potential, and our world is far more fascinating than you dare to think.
Tradition has taught most of us, amongst others, that people have a sixth sense, that only psychics can practice ESP (Extra Sensory Perception), that communicating with another person thousands of miles away, mind to mind, is not possible, and that paranormal occurrences and parapsychology is pseudo-science, or from the realms of the Occult.
But this is far from true. We have far more than six senses. Saying that we have a sixth sense dedicated to psychic perception is misleading and leads to misunderstanding the true concept of sense perception.
To illustrate, take our sense of touch for example. This sense,. One of the five, has several sub-senses. It can detect pressure, texture, and temperature, using different nerve endings for each of these sub sections, so there we already have nine senses, and we haven’t gone into the other four.
To show just how complex the situation really is, let’s take the old saying of, “seeing is believing”. But isn’t it equally true that believing is seeing? If you don’t believe what you’re seeing you’re not really seeing it, are you? And if you believe strongly enough in something, you might just as easily see something that isn’t there, and not perceptible to those around you. Yet you would put your life on it that you “saw” it.
The human mind is a complex machine and an extremely powerful one. But it’s not single-phased as many want us to believe, it’s multifaceted, and capable of vastly more than we ascribe to it. It is, beyond doubt, the most incredible entity in the universe. Yet we misuse it and abuse it on a daily basis. But once we learn how to expand our vision and enhance our awareness of who and what we really are, there is no limit.
Over the next few months we are going to delve into the secrets of the mind, the universe, and life itself, and hopefully by then will have harnessed the full potential of our awareness., and you will have learnt the one truth that will set you free from merely existing.
Because of a size-restraint, on the 30th of November, the introduction, and this lecture will be removed to make space for Lecture Two, in which we discuss the human consciousness and its myriad of implications, variations, and powers.
END OF POTENTIAL AWARENESS, LECTURE ONE.
